Vault Fridays: Gibson F5 Derrington Master Model

vault

We’ve decided to start a new weekly feature here on the First Quality Music Blog: Vault Fridays. Each Friday I’ll venture into the Vault with one of our instrument specialists to showcase some of the cool stuff we’ve got hidden away in there.

This week, we’re taking a look at a very special Gibson F-5 Master Model Mandolin signed by a late friend of ours, Charlie Derrington. Charlie was instrumental in bringing about the standard of excellence in the modern Gibson Mandolin, but was tragically taken from us in a motorcycle accident in 2006.

You can learn more about this mandolin here.

    Hey there,

I’m an old mandolin player and I love your site. (and your store)

Hope you’ll visit my blog. The link is below. As far as I know I am the only physician bluegrass fiction writer on the Internet.

My book, ‘The Mandolin Case,’ is due out in 2010. It is a complicated medical/legal case solved by the bluegrass crowd. As Tim Stafford said, ‘Doc, that has to be fiction.” It is that, but it is also true. With my story I hope to show the world all about how traditional musicians are the coolest folks around.
